The Nicolet and Chequamegon National Forests aren't part of the State Park system (duh), but they are a part of Wisconsin.

Something to keep in mind before traveling in the Wisconsin National Forests. Generally, the roads in the Forests are fire roads consisting of gravel. I've found that the Medford branch roads are fairly hard packed; however, don't assume that the roads in the other branches will be the same.
